The Compensatory ʿUmra (ʿUmrat al-Qadaʾ)

The Prophet ﷺ entered Makkah to perform ʿUmra with two thousand Muslims chanting the talbiya, fulfilling a clause of the Treaty of Hudaybiyya after being turned away the previous year. He completed his ʿUmra over three days while Quraysh watched from the mountaintops.

When Quraysh turned the Prophet ﷺ back from ʿUmra in the year of Hudaybiyya, it was among the terms of the treaty that the Muslims perform ʿUmra the following year and that Makkah be vacated for them for three days. So he ﷺ went out in Dhu'l-Qaʿda 7 AH with two thousand of those who had witnessed Hudaybiyya, their weapons with them for fear of treachery — which they left outside the Sanctuary.

He ﷺ entered Makkah upon his she-camel al-Qaswaʾ, with ʿAbdullah ibn Rawaha holding its rein, and the Muslims chanting the talbiya around the Kaʿba. He ordered them to walk briskly (raml) in the first three circuits to show the polytheists their strength, for they had said: a people whom the fever of Yathrib has weakened are coming to you.

He stayed three days and married Maymuna bint al-Harith, the last of the Mothers of the Believers, then departed in fulfilment of the condition. This ʿUmra had a great effect on the people of Makkah, who saw the might of Islam and the tranquillity of its people; only months later Khalid and ʿAmr ibn al-ʿAs embraced Islam.

Note — differing reports on the date: He went out for it in Dhu'l-Qaʿda 7 AH by agreement — the month of all his ʿUmras — without fixing the day of departure.
