The Conquest of Makkah
The Prophet ﷺ entered Makkah with ten thousand of his Companions, his head bowed in humility to Allah. He smashed the idols around the Kaʿba while reciting "Truth has come and falsehood has vanished," and pardoned its people with his words: "Go, for you are free."
When Quraysh broke the Treaty of Hudaybiyya by their allies Banu Bakr's aggression against Khuzaʿa, the Prophet ﷺ prepared in complete secrecy and marched with ten thousand, so that Quraysh were taken by surprise as the armies surrounded Makkah. He ﷺ proclaimed: "Whoever enters the house of Abu Sufyan is safe, whoever shuts his door is safe, and whoever enters the Mosque is safe."
He ﷺ entered Makkah from its heights in humility, so that his chin nearly touched his saddle in gratitude to Allah, and no fighting worth mention took place save a slight skirmish on Khalid's side. He went to the Kaʿba, around which were three hundred and sixty idols, and began striking them with his bow, saying: "Truth has come and falsehood has vanished; indeed falsehood is bound to vanish."
Then he said to Quraysh, whose hearts were filled with fear: "What do you think I will do with you?" They said: A noble brother and the son of a noble brother. He said: "Go, for you are free." It was the Greatest Conquest, after which people entered the religion of Allah in throngs, and Bilal climbed atop the Kaʿba to give the call to prayer, heralding a new age.
Note — differing reports on the date: He ﷺ entered Makkah with ten nights remaining of Ramadan 8 AH according to the well-known view; the reports range between the 19th and the 21st of it.
