The Battle of Khaybar

The Prophet ﷺ marched with his Companions to the fortresses of Khaybar north of Madinah after the Treaty of Hudaybiyya. Allah granted its conquest at the hands of ʿAli ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) after a hard siege, and with it the Muslims secured their northern flank.

After the Muslims were secured from Quraysh by the Treaty of Hudaybiyya, the Prophet ﷺ set out with around 1,400 of his Companions who had witnessed Hudaybiyya toward Khaybar, the greatest and most heavily fortified stronghold of the Jews in the Hijaz.

The Muslims besieged the fortresses and the fighting dragged on, so he ﷺ said: "Tomorrow I shall give the banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger and whom Allah and His Messenger love; Allah will grant victory at his hands." He handed it to ʿAli ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), and Allah opened at his hands al-Qamus, the most impregnable of its forts.

The Prophet ﷺ made peace with its people on the condition that they work its land for half its produce. The conquest of Khaybar secured the north of Madinah and prepared the way for the conquests that followed.

Note — differing reports on the date: The Prophet ﷺ set out to Khaybar in late Muharram 7 AH according to Ibn Ishaq; some say in Jumada al-Ula. The sources do not fix the day of departure precisely.
