When is Day of Tarwiyah 2030?
What is Day of Tarwiyah?
The Day of Tarwiyah is the 8th of Dhul-Hijjah and the first day of the Hajj rites: pilgrims enter ihram and set out for Mina, spending there the night before Arafah. It was named Tarwiyah ("watering") because pilgrims would stock up on water for themselves and their mounts in preparation for the standing at Arafah.
The virtue of Day of Tarwiyah
It is the gateway to the greatest days of the year: the pilgrim caravans set out on it following the Prophet ﷺ, who went to Mina and prayed Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha and the next day’s Fajr there. It also lies within the ten days in which righteous deeds are most beloved to Allah.
What is done on Day of Tarwiyah?
The pilgrim assumes ihram for Hajj in the forenoon and proceeds to Mina, shortening the five prayers there without combining them, and spends the night — following the Prophet’s ﷺ example. For non-pilgrims, fasting it among the first nine days and abounding in takbir and remembrance is recommended.
How is the date determined?
Dates here are calculated astronomically per the Umm al-Qura standard used in Saudi Arabia. Some countries rely on direct moon sighting instead, so the actual date can differ by about one day between regions.
