What is Ashura?
Ashura is the 10th day of Muharram. The Prophet ﷺ fasted it and encouraged fasting it in gratitude for the salvation of Prophet Musa; fasting the 9th alongside it is recommended. It holds special historical and religious significance for Muslims.
How is the date determined?
Dates here are calculated astronomically per the Umm al-Qura standard used in Saudi Arabia. Some countries rely on direct moon sighting instead, so the actual date can differ by about one day between regions.
